Sequoias Community College District is seeking candidates who are qualified and equity-minded to fill a one-year temporary full-time position in the Mathematics Department beginning August 2024.

Job Duties

The successful candidate will be responsible for a basic teaching assignment in Mathematics. Course program includes Mathematics courses ranging from Statistics, and College Algebra through Differential Equations including Computer Science. Assignment may include evening classes, weekend classes, and teaching at any of our locations in Visalia, Hanford, and/or Tulare.

Participation in the governance of the Sequoias Community College District by way of committee assignments is encouraged.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
The candidate must meet the following criteria.


  • Master's in mathematics or applied mathematics
OR
  • Bachelor's in either of the above AND Master's in statistics or physics
OR
  • The equivalent
AND
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students which pursuant to Title 5 53022 is a core system competency and job requirement.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

The following items are not required to apply for this position. We do not expect any applicant to possess all of the following qualifications. However, if you do have any of the following experiences or characteristics, we encourage you to make note of them in your Letter of Interest as part of your application. The hiring committee also seeks evidence of the following:
  • Teaching experience in mathematics at a community college.
  • Strong academic background
  • Course work and teaching/industry experience which would enhance the teaching of mathematics (i.e., statistics, engineering, physics, programming).
  • Experience working with students from diverse cultural, ethnic, socioeconomic, academic and disability backgrounds.
  • Employment of innovative, interactive and alternative teaching methods.
  • Willingness to make positive contributions to the department and college outside of the classroom.
  • Commitment to professional growth.
  • Ability to incorporate student learning outcomes objectives within course and programs and willingness to use and develop stated objectives and measures.
