The Foothill-De Anza Community College District is currently accepting applications for the faculty position of Instructor, Mathematics, De Anza College. We are looking to fill two(2) vacancies.

The Foothill - De Anza Community College District does not have a remote work policy. All employees are expected to be available to work in person and on-site per the requirement of the department.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION INCLUDE:

Practice student-centered and equity-minded pedagogies in accordance with established course outlines and use high-impact strategies that serve all students including underserved and disproportionately impacted students (i.e., Latinx, African Ancestry, Filipinx, Veterans, Foster Youth, Disabled Students, First-Generation Students, LGBTQ+, and Low-income students).Advance student learning through dedicated, exemplary, equity-minded instruction.Teach community college statistics and mathematics courses to a diverse student population (course range includes algebra, pre-calculus, calculus, discrete mathematics, linear algebra, differential equations, finite mathematics, and statistics).Collaborate in the development and revision of curriculum.Provide teaching and mentoring services to students in a manner which is inclusive and mindful of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, age, protected veteran status, political affiliation, or other protected categories.Teach in multiple modalities, including asynchronous/synchronous/hybrid online and in-person courses.Perform standard duties expected of all faculty that include:
a. maintaining scheduled office hours
b. attending department, division, and program meetings
c. keeping abreast of pedagogical and discipline research
d. pursuing professional growth activities
e. participating in activities that enhance the student experience
f. serving on district and/or college committees

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds, disability, and sexual orientation of community college students, faculty and staff.

Master's degree in mathematics or applied mathematics OR, Bachelor’s in either of the above AND Master’s in statistics, physics, or mathematics education OR, the equivalent.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Successful candidates will provide evidence of:

Demonstrated commitment to equity-minded teaching and eliminating demographic predictability of educational outcomes.
Commitment to instructional practices that empower students who are typically underrepresented in STEM fields.
Recent experience working with and teaching community college students and/or similar populations.
Ability to prepare for and teach all mathematics and statistics courses offered by the department in a way that conveys enthusiasm for the subject and fosters excitement and curiosity inside and outside the classroom.
Using a variety of instructional methods that emphasize cooperation and collaboration among students and engage students in their own learning.
Collaborating effectively with colleagues to enhance instruction, curriculum, and student success.
Continual professional growth relevant to community college teaching.
Ability to present ideas in an organized and clear manner.
Incorporating appropriate technology into teaching and learning for both in-person and online classes.
Actively participating in departmental, division, and college initiatives.
Ability to foster a positive and inclusive class environment for student discussion and participation.
Demonstrated ability to support students experiencing mathematics anxiety and helping them overcome it.
Demonstrated experience working with staff and in student success center, cohort programs, and learning communities to ensure the success of students.
Ability to assess students through multiple measures in a fair and equitable way to recognize different learning styles.

HIRING RANGE: $72,704.00 - $119,405.00 annually plus benefits; actual placement is based on applicant’s verified education and experience.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Full-time, Tenure-track, 10-months per year.
